Come Home to First Baptist
In keeping with Jesus’ commands, First Baptist seeks to take the Gospel to the “ends of the earth” through international efforts.
Children’s Malnutrition Center, San Juan, Guatemala
One of our newest missional partners is the Children’s Malnutrition Center in San Juan, Guatemala. Many of the people of Guatemala suffer from the effects of poverty, and among those who suffer most are the children. One of the greatest needs caused by poverty is receiving proper and adequate nutrition The Children’s Malnutrition Center provides temporary care to infants and young children who are severely malnourished. Teams have provided love and care for these precious children and have assisted with maintenance and upkeep on the facility.
Ricks Institute, Monrovia, Liberia (link: www.ricksonline.org)
First Baptist maintains a well-established partnership with Ricks. Our efforts include a combination of education, spiritual nurture, construction, development of new (U.S.) partnerships, student sponsorships and dreaming alongside the Ricks community. Many members of FBC have traveled to Ricks and have returned with a changed outlook and a renewed commitment to sharing Jesus in this part of the world. The relationships that have developed on these short-term mission trips have expanded to include the listeners of stories told by Ricks’ missionaries. Most recently, we have had the privilege of sending one of our own church members to be a missionary to the Ricks Campus for a year.
RISS – Ricks Institute Student Sponsorship
Students have a lifetime need at Ricks: receiving an education. They also have a practical need that we can help meet: providing for that education. As a sponsor, one has the ability to financially support a child’s education that will, in turn, impact the future of Liberia. The sponsorship program provides funds that apply directly to \ tuition so children can attend Ricks; but our partnership provides more than just funds. This program is relational as well with sponsor and student corresponding throughout the year as a means of additional support and encouragement. Sponsorship begins at thirty dollars per month to sponsor one child. Other options are available.
Rainbow Church, Almaty, Kazakhstan
Our relationship with the Rainbow Church was established during the pastorate of Dr. Potts and continues to be an important missional partnership. We have assisted Rainbow Church with its orphanage ministry by updating a projection system they use to share the Gospel of Jesus and in various other ways throughout the years. Another vital aspect of this ministry is the mutual exchange of prayer concerns and encouragement.
